“Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.”
— Proverbs 24:11
Have you ever watched someone walking toward danger and felt helpless to stop them?
That’s the picture Scripture gives us—people stumbling unknowingly toward destruction, and God urgently calling His people to step in. This is not just a poetic metaphor. It’s a divine reality. We are surrounded every day by people—co-workers, friends, neighbors, classmates, even family—who are perishing without the hope of the gospel.
It’s easy to become numb. To busy ourselves with religious routines or daily demands and forget that eternity is on the line. But the Bible refuses to let us be comfortable with indifference. It calls us to see the lost, feel what God feels, and act.
God’s Heart Breaks for the Lost
Long before we ever thought of Him, God was searching for us. From the Garden of Eden to the cross of Calvary, the story of Scripture is the story of a God who pursues.
“The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
— Luke 19:10
Jesus didn’t just wait for sinners to come to Him—He went after them. He sought out Zacchaeus in a tree, the woman at the well, the man with a legion of demons, the blind beggar in the street. He told stories of a lost sheep, a lost coin, and a lost son—not to entertain, but to reveal the Father’s relentless love.
And His heart hasn't changed.
“He could not be at rest while man was perishing.”
— The Desire of Ages, p. 417
That’s the kind of passion Jesus had—and still has. He came not just to heal or to teach, but to rescue. And if we claim to follow Him, we must share that burden.
The Call to Rescue
Scripture doesn’t mince words:
“Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.”
— Proverbs 24:11
“Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire.”
— Jude 1:22–23
“Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover a multitude of sins.”
— James 5:20
This is not optional. This is urgent. And it’s deeply personal.
How many people in your life are drifting—quietly, unknowingly—toward spiritual ruin? How many are carrying pain behind smiles, searching for meaning in all the wrong places, or chained by guilt, addiction, or despair?
“If souls are left to perish through our neglect, their blood will be required at our hands.”
— Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 5, p. 204
That’s not meant to guilt-trip us. It’s meant to wake us up. There is no greater work than helping someone find eternal life. No greater honor than leading a soul home to the Father.
Love Like Jesus
Jesus didn’t rescue people with force, manipulation, or formulas. He loved them. He saw them. He listened. He wept. He walked with them.
And He calls us to do the same.
“Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Savior mingled with men as one who desired their good… He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, ‘Follow Me.’”
— Ministry of Healing, p. 143
In a world full of noise and self-interest, nothing stands out more than genuine compassion. When we care enough to listen, to serve, to pray, to speak truth in love—that’s when hearts begin to open. That’s when walls begin to fall.
This isn’t just about evangelistic campaigns or professional missionaries. This is about you. Your circle. Your influence. Your story.
Time is Running Out
“As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.”
— John 9:4
We are not guaranteed tomorrow. Jesus is coming soon. Every day is a gift, and every soul is precious.
If we knew how short the time was, would we live differently? Would we speak more boldly? Would we love more deeply?
Now is the time. Not when you feel more qualified. Not when life slows down. Now.
What Can You Do?
You don’t have to be a preacher to rescue the perishing. You just have to care—and act.
Pray for the lost by name. Ask God to break your heart for what breaks His.
Reach out to someone who’s hurting or drifting. Invite them to talk, to pray, or to study the Bible.
Live your faith boldly and humbly. Let your life reflect the love of Jesus.
Be ready to share your testimony. Your story matters.
The world doesn’t need more casual Christians. It needs more faithful, compassionate, Spirit-filled disciples who will go after the one.
Final Word
“Those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever.”
— Daniel 12:3
You may not see the impact now. But every act of love, every word of truth, every tear you shed for a lost soul is seen in heaven. And someday, you may meet someone in eternity who says, “You reached me. You rescued me.”
So go. Rescue the perishing. Seek the lost. Shine for Jesus.
